建立了自己特色的研究方法:以发展理论化学方法为核心,基于发展的方法模拟与设计材料,并合成出设计的材料。由于理论方法给予材料设计预测性导向,特色研究方法具有高效性,能够大幅缩短材料开发周期。用特色研究方法开发应用于能源与环境的有机功能材料。主要研究方向为物理吸附共轭微孔高分子材料与敏化太阳能电池材料。
  共轭微孔高分子材料是2007年发现的一类新兴多孔材料,具有表面积大,高稳定性等特点。目前这类材料被广泛应用于能源与环境的重要问题,比如储氢,储甲烷,CO2捕获和水处理等。发展了精确范德华分子力场,能够准确描述微孔高分子与小分子间范德华相互作用。以此理论为基础,用计算机设计了一系列的新型共轭微孔高分子材料,并合成出所设计的材料。开发了性能优异的储氢材料,CO2捕获与转化材料,水处理材料等,具有重要的应用价值。
  太阳能电池一直以来是洁净能源研究领域的热点。敏化太阳能电池作为第三代太阳能电池而倍受关注。发展了多尺度太阳能电池模拟模型,能够根据分子结构预测其电池性能。以此理论为基础,用计算机模拟设计了一系列的有机染料分子及无机敏化材料,并合成出所设计的材料。开发了性能优异的太阳能电池系列材料。
